Crafting My Bachelorette Look: The Ruffle Bralette Adventure

As the countdown to my wedding began, I found myself on a quest for the perfect outfits to celebrate all the special events leading up to the big day, including my bachelorette party. While I had a few pieces picked out, I wanted to create something unique and personal. That’s when I decided to crochet a Ruffle Bralette top!

A Special Yarn

My future in-laws had recently given me a treasure trove of vintage yarn they discovered while cleaning out Andrew’s grandmother’s belongings. Among the assortment was a lovely skein of bright white yarn, which instantly struck me as the perfect bridal colour. It felt special to use this yarn, making this project even more meaningful.

Getting Started

To kick off my crochet journey, I set the scene by putting on the opening ceremonies of the Paris Olympics and following along with Chenda DIY’s YouTube tutorial for a Crochet Ruffle Bralette on my iPad. As I dove into the pattern, I quickly realized that the yarn I had was thicker than what Chenda used. This meant frequent measuring to ensure the fit was just right.

After a few hours of crocheting, I completed the main part of the top and the straps—but I ran out of yarn just as I was ready to add the ruffles!

A Trip to Michael’s

Determined to finish my creation, I made a trip to Michael’s, bringing my half-finished top along to find the perfect match. To my relief, I found an almost identical white yarn that blended seamlessly with what I had already used. With my new skein in hand, I rushed home to complete the ruffles, adding the finishing touch that brought the entire piece together.

The Bachelorette Party Weekend

Fast forward to my bachelorette party, which my sister (and Maid of Honour) had planned as a fabulous weekend getaway in Blue Mountain Village near Collingwood. The itinerary included everything from axe throwing and ceramic painting to lounging by the pool, indulging in the thermal spa, and enjoying delicious meals. Plus, it was the perfect way to celebrate my 30th birthday!

As the weekend progressed, I realized I hadn’t worn my crocheted top yet. On the last day, we were heading out for dinner followed by axe throwing, and I felt this was the perfect moment to debut my creation. However, I had a slight worry that the top might fall apart during our activities. I found a safety pin and double-knotted the shirt to ensure it was secure and hoped for the best!

A Successful Debut

The moment I put on the Ruffle Bralette, I felt a surge of pride. Not only did I create something beautiful, but I also got to wear it during a memorable event with my closest friends. To my delight, the top survived the axe throwing adventure without a hitch! It was so much fun to rock something I had made myself, and it made the whole experience even more special.

A Heartfelt Thank You

A huge thank you to all my bridesmaids for throwing me the most wonderful bachelorette party. It was an unforgettable weekend filled with laughter, love, and creativity—a perfect prelude to the wedding ahead. If you’re considering a DIY project for a special occasion, I wholeheartedly recommend it. There’s nothing quite like wearing something you’ve crafted with your own hands!
