HGTV Canada 150 videos on an ipad

HGTV Canada 150

In celebration of Canada’s 150th anniversary, HGTV Canada produced a series of digital shorts featuring their Canadian stars and what they loved most about Canada. The videos aired on all of HGTV Canada’s social media platforms and websites.

The Vision Behind the Project

Our role in this project was to provide art direction for the shoot and to design and animate a collection of illustrations that would help tell the stories of the hosts. The aim was to create a cohesive visual narrative that resonated with audiences across multiple platforms: Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. With over 20 videos produced, the challenge was to ensure that each piece felt part of a unified campaign.

Color Palette & Design Inspiration

We chose a striking colour palette of red, white, and dark grey to reflect Canada’s national colours. This limited palette allowed us to create a strong visual unification, while also ensuring the illustrations stood out against the backdrop of the videos.

Our illustrations were inspired by iconic elements often seen on parkway wayfinding signage—simple, recognizable, and evocative of the great outdoors.

Crafting the Stories

Each video was crafted to highlight different aspects of Canada, with the host sharing their cherished family traditions, favourite Canadian food, or their prefect summer day. Through thoughtful animation, we were able to bring the illustrations to life, enhancing the storytelling experience. The combination of personal narratives from the HGTV hosts and our vibrant visuals created a powerful tribute to Canada and its rich heritage.
